Russian Foreign Ministry protesting against demolition of mausoleum at Red Army soldiers' burial site in Poland
MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Moscow has protested against an act of vandalism in Poland, where the authorities had demolished the mausoleum over a common grave of Red Army soldiers in the town of Trzcianka.
"We strongly protest against vandalism committed by the Polish authorities. We consider this outrageous incident a direct consequence and an illustration of the Polish government's anti-Russian policy in the memorial field among others. Warsaw must understand that such a display of disregard to the memory of the war and its heroes is akin to barbarity. We have no intention of putting up with it," The Russian Foreign Ministry's information and press department said in a statement posted on its website on Saturday.
Moscow was "indignant" to learn about the demolition of the mausoleum. "Preparations for this sacrilegious act lasted for a long time and the Polish side was fully aware of our substantiated and unequivocal stance against the removal of this monument," the statement said.
"The Polish authorities' arbitrary behavior towards any Soviet and Russian memorial sites is unacceptable in terms of existing inter-state and inter-governmental documents," it said.
