Peskov on Poroshenko's plan on peacekeepers: Mission must be first of all conditioned on consent of Kyiv, DPR, LPR (Part 2)
VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 7 (Interfax) - The main condition for any peacekeeping mission in the Donbas conflict area must be the consent of Kyiv and self-proclaimed republics of Donbas.
"Any peacekeepers may be deployed at the point of contact of the conflicting parties once it is approved by these conflicting parties," Peskov told reporters in a comment on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's statement about his vision of a peacekeeping mission in Donbas.
"The Russian Federation is not a party to this conflict. The conflict in southeastern Ukraine is first and foremost subject to discussion between Kyiv and the authorities of the unrecognized republics - LPR [Luhansk People' Republic] and DPR [Donetsk People's Republic]," he said.
"This is, perhaps, the main modality, which it would be unreasonable to refuse and illogical to ignore. This is the first and primary condition for a deployment of any peacekeepers," Peskov said.
A peacekeeping mission deployment requires consent of the parties concerned and it is globally accepted practice, he went on.
"Peacekeepers aren't deployed anywhere without the consent of the parties. Since no such cases have ever taken place, this is simply unimaginable," Peskov said.
Moscow resolutely rejects any allegations that Russia is a party to the conflict, Peskov added.
