Terrorists attempt to fire mortars on Russian embassy in Damascus - Russian Foreign Ministry
MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - An attempt to fire mortars on the Russian embassy in Damascus from districts controlled by terrorists was made on Sunday, which caused no damage or casualties, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"On July 16, an attempt was made to fire mortars on the Russian embassy in Damascus. Two mortar rounds presumably fired from the city district of Jobar controlled by terrorists of Hayat Tahrir ash-Sham (former Jabhat al-Nusra) and Faylaq ar-Rahman exploded not far from the outer perimeter of our foreign mission," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Monday.
"Luckily, no casualties or destruction was caused," it said.
"We strongly condemn terrorist sorties against the Russian diplomatic mission and peaceful neighborhoods in Damascus," it said.
